WHAT IS AN INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP?
The FCI International title is distinctly different from that commonly listed as an "International" championship as offered IABCA/UCI.
IABCA and its US agent stage "European-style" shows in the US and Canada through a single US organization.
A dog may win the UCICB ("International Champion") title
in as little as one
weekend, in a single city, entirely within the US.
Two shows are usually held over a two day period.
We show only in AKC, CKC & FCI, three of the world's foremost dog clubs.
The "Gold standard" FCI title ("Championnat International de Beauté de la FCI") is awarded by the
Fédération
Cynologique Internationale (FCI), which is headquartered in Belgium and is composed of 88 member countries
(including Japan).
To achieve the FCI International Championship, a dog must be awarded 4 challenge certificates
(requiring a rating of "excellent")
in three different
countries under at least three different international judges.
The FCI governs show events and awards titles for
virtually
all countries except the US, Canada, Australia and the UK, which have
their own
governing bodies (AKC, CKC, KC).
The FCI International title is rare in Akitas in the US.
If a dog has achieved the difficult, truly international title its name will state "FCI Int Ch" If it doesn't, it likely wasn't truly "International."
