Miisan Akitas is located in the Central Florida area of Florida (USA). We have owned, shown and bred Akitas since 1976 ... 32 years. We have bred many AKC multiple Best of Breed and Group placing champions and have owned and finished many more.
Although we have long worked with Akitas of American foundation breeding, we have embraced the opportunity offered when the AKC once again allowed importation of Akitas from their native Japan in 1992. Prior to that, the AKC studbook was closed to Japanese dogs after their entry into show status in 1976.
Since then we have imported many Akitas from Japan. Along with our friends and partners Barbara Wolf and Doug Jenkins (also in Central Florida), we currently have nine imported males and females (all registered with AKC, Japan Kennel Club, and Japan's Akita-Inu Preservation Society <Akiho>), including AKC, FCI Int Ch Ryouun Go Miyagi Kozaki Kensha ("Ryo").
Ryo is the only US Akita to achieve both the AKC and FCI International championship titles. He also holds four additional FCI National and Regional titles.
We also currently own several beautiful dogs resulting from blending of the American type and Japanese type dogs. Pictured at left is AKC Ch. Raiko Go (75% import).
We show our dogs both in the US in AKC-sanctioned events and internationally in events sanctioned by the worldwide FCI*
* The Fédération Cynologique Internationale is the largest canine organization in the world. It includes 84 National member countries (and associates) including Europe, South America, Asian nations and Mexico, Central America and the Carribean. Only the AKC (US), CKC (Canada), KC (UK) ANKC (Australia) and just a few other countries maintain separate registries and sanction dog events not affiliated with FCI.
Miisan Akitas is the result of collaboration between the following people. We are all committed to improvement of the Akita breed's appearance and genetic health.

DONALD PLUMMER
(Shown below with Miisan's Phoenix Rising owned by Harry & Patty Hotmire)

I became interested in Akitas in 1986.
I was instantly attracted to the beauty and unique,
loving temperament of the breed. I am fortunate
to have had many
well-known mentors during my early years of involvement
including my partner Michael, Fran Wasserman, Catherine Bell and others too
numerous to mention.
I have co-bred several Miisan Akitas litters
and have shown both our dogs and those of others in the
AKC ring.
I can often be seen at dog shows in the
Southeast.
I am also an active member
of the Southeastern Stewards' Associaton and the
Dixie Stewards' Association. I am currently finalizing requirements to apply for license to judge Akitas in AKC events.
I am a member of the President's Council of the AKC Canine Health Foundation. I serve as the current President of the
Akita Club of Tampa Bay. I am also a member of the Central Florida Working Group Association.
