Important information when selecting a new Akita!
Testing parents for genetic disorders (and certifying them in open registry databases) is one of the hallmarks of responsible breeders concerned about producing healthy purebred dogs. When considering acquiring any new purebred pet you have a right to have verification provided signifying that such tests have been performed.In the Akita breed, the minimum testing done must include the following: hip dysplasia, eye disorders and
thyroid function. While the most thorough parental testing cannot guarantee future health of your pet,
breeders committed to producing healthy Akitas will certify such testing with recognized open registries & provide prospective homes with evidence of such testing. We exceed minimum requirements and test for additional potential disorders. Verification of testing and testing info is available by searching the parents' names at http://www.offa.org
Purebred dogs with normal testing results for the recommended disorders common in their breeds and which are submitted to inclusion in an open health registry (see offa.org above) receive an additional certification from the AKC-affiliated Canine Health Information Center ("CHIC") (info)Minimize future health risks in your Akita's future by selecting puppies produced
